  • How to treat adult acne

Adult acne is caused by the same things that cause teen acne: excess skin oil and bacteria. Breakout prone skins have 4-5x more cell production causing build up and clogging on the skin. Skin cells build-up is exacerbated as skin renewal rates slow with age. Adults tend to experience inflamed lesions along the jawline but can also be all over the skin, generally less oily compared to teens. The main factor of adult acne is changes in hormone levels. This then increase sebum production. Hormonal fluctuations, stress, and diet all likely play a role as well.  Adult’s skins are slower to heal meaning inflamed lesions last longer and scarring is more significant.
