How to clear up acne - my fail safe routine
I often get asked what the easiest and quickest way is to treat acne, and my answer always is the following routine:
-Supplementation – Supplements when it comes to acne is the most important part. I would say Skin Accumax from the Advanced Nutrition Programme is the best one I’ve come across – I challenge you to find one negative review – and treating your skin from the inside out really makes the difference. Often acne is triggered by something internal, hormones, medication, smoking, diet etc. so just treating it topical is never going to make the difference. You need the internal supplement to really change the way the skin behaves and Accumax really helps to achieve that.
-PreCleanse – either Dermalogica PreCleanse which is simply amazing or another pre-cleanser
-Toner – I would say either Derma-Lac Lotion (very exfoliating to help break down congestion – only if your acne is cystic and nodular) or UltraCalming Mist from Dermalogica or Moisturising Toner from Environ – if your acne is drier.
-Moisturiser – this may sound crazy, but if you want to get rid of your acne, fast, then I would go for an oil moisturiser. Environ A, C and E Oil is super strong vitamin A and the oil helps to break down the oil in the skin, creating amazing results. I know that it sounds crazy and many of my clients just can’t understand why the oil has such good result, but it does!
For those of you familiar with Environ this sits at AVST 4 (there is only 5 levels!) to give you an idea of the strong dose of Vitamin A you will be getting onto your skin. Once you’ve gone through 1-2 bottles of this you can move onto AVST 4 and then AVST 5 and after that Retinol 1-3 - now that is a skincare routine worth talking about – the strength of the product you will be using at that point! Power house stuff!
-Exfoliant – a lot of my clients go wrong at this point. Exfoliation is not just a scrub or polish that will irritate and sensitize your skin whilst giving a temporary polish that will last 1-2 days before you have to irritate all over again. No, no.
Exfoliation for you will come in the form of oils and creams called AHAs and BHAs and Vitamin A– chemical exfoliants.
Your AHA and BHA that you now need to introduce to really give your skin a boost in LACM 1. (I just love, love, love this product! It’s always given me personally fantastic results and also all of my clients that are on it, LOVE it)
LACM 1 is a light peel for your skin, sterilising and preventing breakouts. It contains Lactic Acid at 2.5% - that’s strong! And has a pH of 2.2 which is what make it sterilising.
Just taking a moment out to give you a fun fact – unless an acid is a low pH, it won’t exfoliate your skin. Therefore, if you purchase a product that has 2.5% lactic acid but has a high pH, it won’t exfoliate your skin deeply, only very lightly. The lower the pH, the deeper the exfoliation.
Coming back to acne now – if you use LACM 1 every other day, I pretty much guarantee you that your skin will look and feel different. It will not only be smoother and less congested but that light peel that you are doing on your skin each day will help to prevent further breakouts whilst also correct current ones – simply amazing and a must have to your routine. I would apply a thin layer of your LACM 1 and then leave it to dry for 10 minutes and then remove – it will feel tingly the first few times you use it, but your skin will get use it. Note, you must be on you’re A, C, and E oil for at least 3 weeks before merging this into the routine.
And there you have it, the best breakout fighting and correcting routine. If you take all of these products your skin will be amazing and probably clear up within a matter of weeks and months. If are only going to take two products I would say LACM 1 and Accumax make the biggest difference. But in terms of keeping your skin clean, this is also of huge importance. Double cleansing with a PreCleanse and Cleanser will change your skin dramatically if you are not already doing it.
Wishing you happy and healthy skin from Ms. Glow X
