How did Ms. Glow become Ms. Glow?
Ms. Glow is Elle Winslow, a qualified skin therapist, beautician, makeup lover and supplement guru who has years of experience and expertise in the industry (that’s me!).
I have been working in the industry since I was 13 years old, sweeping up hair and making coffees in my mother’s hair salon. It was then that I got the bug for beauty, hair and makeup! Later that year my grandfather passed away and having immigrated to this country and built up a significant business and property portfolio, he was a real inspiration for my entrepreneurial spirit. However, on his passing he left me £200 in cash to do with what I pleased. I promptly decided that rather than just spend it or save it I would turn my £200 into £300 and so on, just like he had so many years before.
So, I took my £200 and went down to a local book shop with a rough idea in my head of what I was going to do! I wanted to find a book on how to make soaps and bath products and then once I had the book, buy all the ingredients I needed to get started. I found the book, bought the ingredients and cleared out my parents shed in the garden (bought some solar lights for the winter months!) and started work.
I had a little generator that gave me electric and a small radio for company as well as my gas heater which I used to melt down the soap bases.
I was in heaven in that little shed. It had all my fragrances, colours in alphabetical order, all my bases and raw ingredients. I loved it!
I ran the business for around 3 years and when I reached 16 my parents had to sit me down and ask why I had to disappear down the garden for 3 hours a night (due to the vast amount of orders!) and why I wasn’t studying for my school work. It was then that I realised that school just wasn’t for me, all I did all day was wait for it to finish so I could go home and work on my business! And all day I was making notes, coming up with ideas and selling products to my class mates – every Mother’s Day, Christmas, birthday was a marketing opportunity for me!
Therefore, my mum who had always owned hairdressing salons up till now, sold her salon in London and decided to retrain in skincare. She had set the business up and ask me to join her – I jumped at the chance! I then went about leaving school and training for my NVQ 2 and 3 (Beauty qualification) which would allow me to practice beauty treatments in the UK. In the mean time I did many outside beauty qualifications with Dermalogica, Carlton International, CACI and many more. I wanted, even then, to be a step above the other skin therapists.
Once I qualified I started to do what I love, which was work with clients and carry on training and learning. I loved chatting to clients, finding out their problems and in turn finding a solution whilst performing treatments and retailing products. But the part that I loved most of all? Products! I just loved learning about the ingredients, the technology behind them, the way they looked, felt, smelled!
But 4 years on from that I wanted to touch more clients with my knowledge, both skincare and individual product knowledge, however, I could only see so many clients in a day. That’s when we decided to go online, and Winslow Skincare Store was born – it offered all of the products that we had in store online and took me weeks to set up from scratch but once it was built, it was a hub of information!
Then a few weeks after, Ms. Glow was born! Ms. Glow was the pen name I created when I was blogging about skincare, makeup, supplements and treatments. It was a nickname a client called Flo had given me almost 2 years ago and its kind of stuck!
And now Ms. Glow has grown to a vast collection of video blogs, written blogs and social media following that has grown outside of my expectation. I hope that you enjoyed reading my story and that you find some inspiration in it to follow your dreams as well.
What does Ms. Glow offer?
What I offer here at Ms. Glow is an opportunity for you to learn more about your skin than you ever have before. You can do that by watching my videos, reading my blogs, having a personal online consultation with me or following me on social media. I speak about skincare, makeup, supplements and treatments and if you have any specific questions I am always more than happy to help. I’ve got years of experience in my industry and if I don’t know the answer to a question personal (a rare occurrence) then I know a host of Dermatologists, doctors and fellow aesthetic or holistic skin therapists that will.
What makes Ms. Glow different to other bloggers?
What makes me different? The main difference in what I do compared to other bloggers is that everything I recommend or talk about, I have learnt about and gained a qualification in.
The products I speak about, I’ve been on training courses for and read extensively into with the manufactures official line of information, not just reviews and hype online.
I also understand the science behind the products and treatments I talk about, which allows me to explain them better.
And finally, everything I speak about I have tried and test with my clients and in my clinic before blogging about it. I can guarantee you that everything I blog about I have already spoken about to my clients a million times before putting it into writing. If you were to come and visit me in my clinic in West Sussex, then you would receive that exact same information that you can get on my blog.
So, what really makes me different? I am a licenced, fully qualified, experienced and passionate skin therapist and everything I speak about I can back up with training and science. Plus I love what I do!
What is a Glow Getter?
A glow getter is what I call you guys! My followers and fans are all called Glow Getters because… you are! I really do believe what we are all ultimately striving for in skincare is that ‘glow’. That healthy, fresh, young and rejuvenated appearance. If we need to clear up acne, rosacea and lines and wrinkles in order to get there – then we will! The Glow Getter army is in full force!
What is a Glow Up Competition?
A Glow Up competition is something that I run every 3 months or so – it’s a competition, usually via Facebook, Instagram and/or email that allows to win prizes either a SUPER LONG 50-minute consultation with me or a voucher to spend on my site or just free products sent directly to you. Only available to registered Glow Getters.
What are Glow Stars?
Glow stars are a rating that I used on my site, Winslow Skincare Store, to rate individual products. The rating system is out of 10 and most products get a 7 or above – they need that to even make it onto the site!
Only super, super products get a 9 or 10. But what does a product need to do in order to win a Glow Star? I’ve broken down the rating system below to explain.
1-2 Glow Stars – 1st Category – Look and Fell
This is a bare minimum a product should have, otherwise it doesn’t even qualify for a glow star! The products need to feel nice and smell nice, and the packaging needs to look good. It needs to have a rich consistency or light consistency depending on whether it is treating oily or dry skin. The fragrance should be light but no over powering and the packaging should be attractive. This is my bare minimum for a product, if it doesn’t even do this then what is the point. Ideally all products should earn all 3 categories but hey, we can’t all be perfect.
3-4 Glow Stars – 2nd Category – Ingredients
Another KEY part of a product, ingredients are the most important part of what you are putting onto your skin and there is a list of things that a product should include and also what it shouldn’t – more info on that later!
5-7 Glow Stars – 3rd Category – Results
This is what I what deem the most important category which is why it earns you maximum stars – if a product can provide maximum results in minimum time, yes of course we love it! Results are everything in skincare, makeup and supplements and without them, there really is no point to the product at all. All the products that I sell on my site have to have a minimum of 5 stars or more otherwise they don’t make the cut for my Glow Getters!
8-10 Glow Stars – 4th Category – Je ne sais quoi!
This category doesn’t really have a proper name because it changes for every product – what brings a product from a 7 to a 10? It’s different for every product, sometimes it’s because of the amazing reviews it has from clients, other times because I’ve used it in clinic multiple times and this has allowed me to see the amazing results personally, other times it might be because of the look it achieves or the fact it has 7 different uses. It really does depend. Hence the name of this category, that je ne sais quoi!
Wishing you happy and healthy skin from Ms. Glow X
